Aya-chan didn't remember ever taking Ran to the ice cream shop in the Nexus, so she found it strange when Ran asked her to meet him there. It wasn't the kind of place he would go to on his own. The feeling she gets when she sees Ran and Kakyou sitting together at a booth is the opposite of surprise. She smiles at them both, and goes to join them.
Kakyou returns the smile, offering her a bite from the sundae he has in front of him. "We needed to talk to you."
"Sounds ominous. So you chose to bribe me with ice cream? Good move."
She leans forward to lick the spoon.
Aya pushes a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream her way. "It's not bad news. I don't think you will think it's bad news."
"She won't think it's bad news," Kakyou says, a tiny bit wryly. He remembers things like embarrassing conversations with Yuuko and Aya-chan! He swirls his spoon in a little melted ice cream for a moment.
"Aya and I are..." Kakyou really isn't sure what to call it, but finally settles for, "involved."
She looks over at him for a few moments as if waiting for more. Then she starts to laugh. "That isn't bad news. That isn't even news. You guys are loud."
Aya starts to turn pink and makes choking noises.
Aya-chan cannot help but laugh even more at her brother's reaction.
Kakyou doesn't start to choke, but he does blush and find his ice cream suddenly fascinating. "Perhaps I should have told you sooner, but I thought it would be better to...give it time."
He flicks a glance up from his bowl, and the eyes that meet hers plead for understanding.
She stops laughing. She smiles at him and shakes her head. She slowly reaches across the table to run her fingers through his hair and rest her hand against his cheek.
"I love you. Do you really think I could be angry? I trust you to tell me things in your own time, when you are ready. Don't you know that?"
Quiet and focused, Aya watches them.
Kakyou leans into her touch, letting his eyes drift shut. "This isn't a situation I know anything about... Everything is different than it was with her."
Hokuto's brother hadn't even known he existed, let alone that he was in love with his sister. "So I worry that I might be doing things wrong."
She caresses his cheek. Her voice is soft, certain of the answer. "Do you love him?"
Kakyou doesn't open his eyes as he nods slowly.
Her voice is still soft, but there is an undertone of challenge to it. She looks over at her brother. "Ran?"
"Yes." His voice doesn't sound quite right. He coughs to clear his throat. "More than I thought possible."
She smiles at her brother, satisfied. "Then both of you, please stop worrying. Judging by your histories you are going to have a difficult enough time without making things more difficult for yourselves."
Kakyou slides his hand over to take Aya's, a little smile playing on his lips at his lover's words. "But those histories didn't include having you around to tell us when we're being silly. It's clearly a huge difference," he murmurs, half-teasing, half-serious.
Aya runs his thumb over the back of Kakyou's hand in a caress. He turns his hand over to kiss the palm, then hold hands under the table.
"I hope it makes a difference," Aya-chan replies, taking a decisive bite of her rapidly melting ice cream. "You boys need all the help you can get."
Kakyou returns the smile, offering her a bite from the sundae he has in front of him. "We needed to talk to you."
