The dream had the scratchy, dark quality of an old nior detective movie. What little light there was in the room seemed to be tinted blue. Yohji was sitting up in bed, talking on his cellphone. He was talking to Aya-chan. He'd never spoken to the girl before, but knew her voice anyway. It was similar to Sakura's, but older and more refined.

"Don't go," Aya-chan pleaded. "It was so hard to reach you. I need --" Static. "-- She needs you."

He could see Aya-chan pacing. He was sitting in his bedroom with the phone to his ear, but he could see Aya-chan in a library across the city. She was pacing, and she wasn't alone. There was a woman sitting on the floor, slouched against a self of books. At first all he could see was long, strong legs, then full breasts, then her face. God. Her face. It was Asuka. Not Neu. Neu never looked scared, determined, or defiant. It was Asuka, but she was... Not dead anymore somehow. And it had something to do with Aya-chan somehow.

"We need you. Please help." Dial tone.

The darkness returned to normal. Yohji was still sitting in bed with the phone in his hand, but all he could see was his bedroom wall.

Aya-chan's screams blended with Sorena's, shattering through the corridor. Aya-chan's back was pressed to the door, that shook with Sorena's death struggles. The metal twisted and bent, light pouring through the opening in the door, but Lyn had enchanted it and Sorena could not pass through. When light filled the oubliette, what had been Sorena Capulet turned to dust, and the force that she hurled herself against the door scattered the ashes. Aya-chan stood, moving away from the door, and Sorena's ashes covered her. She tried to wipe them off, tears and blood streaking her face. Turning her into a vampire had not made Aya-chan into a killer, but making her brother a vampire had, and she made her innocent wife her accomplice.

Aya-chan was told not to gather flowers in this part of the woods. That's part of why she was there. The flowers were lovelier here… and a little strange. For Aya, that only added to their beauty.

"Hello!" The voice was bright and cheerful and coming from just a little behind and above her. Lyn was laying along a tree branch, her light, multi-colored skirts fluttering now and then in faint breezes. She was smiling happily down, green eyes curious.Read more... )
